Business is important, but so am I (and you).

Business is important, but so am I (and you).

As we get close to Christmas 2016, as business owners, there are some things we all should be doing as we wrap down the year and get ready for the next year.

Speaking with other business owners/entrepreneurs over the last week, it was interesting to hear what people are doing to wrap up the year for their business’.

Some are using the time to assess where they are with their business and determine if they reached their goals for the year. Some other fine women and men are using this time to plan the next year ahead, determine their goals, what sales numbers they want to reach, what their marketing strategies they want to implement.

Then, some are taking the opportunity to contact new prospects, picking up the phone and trying to secure as much business as possible in order to ensure January is as profitable as possible.

Everything above, it’s all good. Me, I’ve been spending most of my time completing some projects that are almost done for some great clients of mine. I’ve been reflecting on my year that just passed and looking ahead to what’s coming up. In fact, at this exact moment, I’m sitting in a cafe, writing this blog post, waiting to meet a new potential client.

However, there is one thing I encourage all business owners to do, and what I’m doing. Take some time for yourself already.

I make it a policy to shut down work during the time between Christmas and New Years Day. This has always been a tradition for me as far back as I can remember. Going back to when I was employed in various firms. If that week was not offered as a holiday time, I would always book it off.

Leading up to that time, I’m also making sure I take time for myself and my family when I can. Business is important, but so am I.

I encourage all business owners to take time for themselves. Go for a walk, call a friend, play with your kids. After all, what is the point of running our own business if we aren’t spending the time with the ones we love the most, including ourselves.

ELH Law Website and Branding

ELH Law Logo by Inspiring Design Co, Campbellford Ontario

Blog

A little bit of this. A little bit of that.

ELH Law Website

ELH Law in Cobourg, Ontario is not your regular law firm. For one, ELH stands for Ember-Leigh Hamilton, the lawyer behind the firm. Ember stands out in a field that is mostly men. Ember did not want a usual “legal” website. She wanted a website that was fun, inspirational, and welcoming.

We created a website that incorporates fun illustrations, jokes and a welcoming owl (Which is an animal that most represents Ember-Leigh). At the same time, Ember is very serious about helping her clients to the best, and fairest legal help.

The website was created using WordPress, which makes it very easy for Ember to update the website without needing to contact me. This allows Ember to make quick updates to her website.

Is your website easy to update or do you need to contact your developer? If so, you may be spending too much money.

In addition to the website, I also helped Ember by designing the logo for her as well. Ember wanted something that was not conventional for a law firm. After discussing it with her and getting to know Ember more, we decided to go with an animal that best describes Ember, and also best represents the firm. We went with the Owl, a bird that represents knowledge.

I love the owl logo as it is not a conventional logo you would expect for a lawyer of a law firm.

Do you think your logo represents not only your business but who you are as a person? Especially when a company is one person, having a logo that represents you as a person helps to establish your brand in a way that your customers can relate to you.

If you like this logo and website, please let me know and share on your favourite social media.

Easily Get Your Google Analytics Code

How to get your Google Analytics tracking code

Blog

A little bit of this. A little bit of that.

How to get your Google Analytics tracking code
Often, I ask clients to provide me with their Google Analytics tracking code so I can embed it into their websites that I’m building. Usually, they have no clue what I am asking or what to do. Because I’m lazy and don’t want to walk clients through the process anymore, I’ve created this video to show you step-by-step what to do.

Step 1) Go to https://analytics.google.com

Step 2) Click the link in the top-right corner “SIGN IN”

Step 3) When you click the link, it will trigger a drop-down menu. Select “Analytics”

Step 4) Sign in with your Gmail account (If you don’t have one, you will need one)

Step 5) Once signed in, click the tab titled, “ADMIN” in the top menu. You will now see three columns on the screen. They are ACCOUNT, PROPERTY, VIEW.

Step 6) If this is your first account, select the drop-down in the ACCOUNT column and then select, “Create new account”

Step 7) You are in the new account section. With the “Website” tab selected, fill in your account name. (This could be the name of your business)

Step 8) Website Name should be the name of your website

Step 9) Website URL is the address that takes you to the homepage of your website.

Step 10) Select the most relevant Industry Category

Step 10) Pick your time-zone

Step 11) Select your Data Sharing Settings options. I recommend leaving all the options selected

Step 12) Click the blue button, “Get Tracking ID” at the bottom

Step 13) Read the Terms of Service that pops up and click, “I Accept” button

Step 14) Great. You now have your tracking ID. Scroll to the top and you will see the section “Tracking ID” with a number below it. Give this number to your developer.

Step 15) If your website developer needs the Website Tracking code, you will find it in the box just a bit lower. It will start with <script> and end with </script> Copy everything including the <script> codes.

If you find this video helpful, please share so others like you can find it too. And don’t forget to share it with your mom.
