Project Overview
Accelerate Physiotherapy is a young physiotherapy clinic in Oakville, Ontario, under the ownership of Michael Porreca. After acquiring an existing business and branding, Michael needed a logo and an identity that could be used for the new clinic’s current and future audience.
The original logo had been an “off-the-shelf” product from a DIY platform. While this could have stood for a quick fix, it lacked originality, cohesion, and professionalism to be used for an extended time frame. The brand had goals of expansion, including a change of address to a new commercial space, exterior branding, and targeting a more athletic-focused client base; therefore, a more evolved and intentional brand was required.
This was not about a full rebrand but more about crafting the evolution of the clinic as a professional, stable, adaptable option.
The Challenge
The project demanded a careful balance.
- Should preserve familiarity and trust for long-term patients.
- Attract athlete-clientele or active customers, neither of which should perceive them as intimidating.
- Replace a do-it-yourself logo with a mark that is original and would belong to the brand.
- Ensuring that all identities can be used across signage, digital platforms, print, apparel, and social media
- Provide flexibility for the future growth of the brand and the potential expansion of the variety of services
The real breakthrough in this case would be that whatever has been designed would work as a present-day solution and remain very relevant in the future.
Strategy and Approach
Initial stages of the process involved a discovery questionnaire and then a strategy call, and were designed to zero in on the client’s goals of constraints and growth strategies rather than completely doing away with the existing logo.
Some of the strategic decisions include:
- It was decided to go for a completely custom icon that symbolizes movement, recovery, and momentum.
- A symbol would also have to be created that could form part of the wordmark.
- It was decided that the logo should be versatile enough to develop over time, one day giving the designer the option to take out the word “Physiotherapy.”
- The colour balanced healthcare trust and movement.
The most critical output of the exercise would be the set of formal Brand Guidelines that would govern how the branding would look across all touchpoints.
The Solution
The final brand system includes a custom icon created to symbolise speed, progress, and movement; a clean, highly legible modern wordmark; horizontal and stacked configurations of the logo; full-colour, black-and-white, and reversed versions; digital files in professional formats fit for digital, print, and signage use; brand guidelines including logo usage, typography, colour palette et cetera.
The new identity is confident and has a contemporary feel, yet remains approachable to current patients.
Before and After

The previous logo was generic, hastily drawn and lacked finesse appropriate for professional use. The new identity is crafted with a handmade mark with the right proportions, selected colours, full impact of the logo system, and planned for real-life uses.
One can see the difference particularly when he or she views it next to that bad old logo, on signs, clothing, and digital screens.
“I wanted something that felt modern and future-ready, but not so sporty that it would turn off my current patients. The goal was to make the clinic feel like a place people could trust long-term, while still moving things forward.”
— Michael Porreca, Owner, Accelerate Physiotherapy
